1Unter dem Archon Charikles; die Aigeïs hatte die neunte Prytanie inne, für die
2Aischrion S.d. Euainetos aus dem Demos RhamnousX Sekretär war; Beschlüsse des Volkes;
3im Elaphebolion am dreizehnten, gemäß dem Gott (= Sonne) am achtzehnten, dem achtundzwanzigsten
4(Tag) der Prytanie; Haupt-Volksversammlung im Piräus; von den Vorsitzenden leitete
5die Abstimmung Antipatros S.d. Potamon aus dem Demos Lamptrai und seine Mitvorsitzenden.
6Beschluss von Rat und Volk;
7Sodamos S.d. Timasitheos aus dem Demos Oion stellte den Antrag: Da Kephisodoros unablässig
8sein Wohlwollen gegenüber dem Volk erzeigt hat in jedem Moment,
9und ungefähr gegen dreißig Jahre Ämter ausgeübt hat in reiner und unbestechlicher
10Weise; er weder Mühe noch Gefahr vermieden hat um
11des allgemeinen Nutzens willen; er alle anderen Pflichten auf sich genommen
12hat, zu denen ihn das Volk bestimmt hat; er auch Schatzmeister
13der Militärkasse gewesen ist in schöner und ehrgeiziger Weise, und die
14Verwaltung der Getreidekasse dreimal hintereinander (?) in den Jahren unter Apollodoros
15und Proxenides übernommen hat; er auch Gesetze eingebracht hat zum Nutzen
16für die Eintracht aller Athener, und Ratschläge gegeben hat für gleiche
17und gerechte Geldeinnahmen; er gezeigt hat, auf welche Weise
18das Volk seine bisherigen Freunde sicher erhalten wird und sie in Treue
19verbleiben und andere hinzugewonnen werden; er die drohenden
20Anschläge von außerhalb vorausah und ihnen zu wehren gedrängt
21hat; er schöne und dem Volk nützende Bündnisse mitberaten
22hat; er auch Gesandtschaften geführt hat über die wichtigsten Angelegenheiten
23zur Rettung für die Städte und für das Umland; er auch Geld und
24Getreide und andere Geschenke in nicht geringer Zahl besorgt hat; er auch
25viele und nützliche Beschlüsse beantragt hat, die Ehre und Ansehen und
26Ordnung dem Volke brachten; er auch, alles Böse verabscheuend, geblieben ist
27bei ein und derselben Haltung die ganze Zeit über; er durch die Kontinuität
28seiner Handlungen und Überlegungen ganz besonders Ursache geworden ist
29- zusammen mit der Gewogenheit der Götter -, dass einerseits das Volk seine Autonomie
30bewahrt hat, andererseits auch nicht wenige von den anderen Griechen
31Gutes in größtem Maße erhielten; und er durch das alles offenbart hat,
32dass er zu Recht Ehrung gemäß dem Gesetz erfährt, und nunmehr bittet,
33dass das Volk von ihm ein Standbild aus Bronze auf der Agora und
34ein anderes im Piräus in dem Handelskontor aufstelle, ferner Speisung im Prytaneion
35für sich und den jeweils ältesten seiner Nachkommen, und Ehrensitz bei allen
36Festspielen, die die Stadt veranstaltet, und diese Bitte an den Rat
37übergab, die eine detaillierte Aufstellung seiner Taten umfasste;
38– Damit nun auch das Volk in öffentlicher Weise die guten und verdienten
39Männer ehrt, und damit auch andere Nacheiferer werden einer solchen Haltung, weil
40sie stets bei dem Volk der Athener die ihnen zukommende Ehre
41finden werden, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen der Rat: dass die
42Vorsitzenden, die zum Vorsitz für die kommende Haupt-Volksversammlung erlost sein werden,
43ihn einführen in die Volksversammlung und hierüber verhandeln lassen
44und die Beschlussvorlage des Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat es
45für gut befindet, dass man belobige Kephisodoros S.d. - - - aus dem Demos - - - und be-
46kränze mit goldenem Kranz gemäß dem Gesetz wegen seiner Leistung und seines
47Wohlwollens, das er stets gegenüber dem Volk der Athener hegt, und verkündige
48diesen Kranz an den Dionysien in der Stadt bei den Tragödien-Uraufführungen
49und an den Panathenäen und Eleusinien und Ptolemäen bei den Sport-
50wettkämpfen; dass für die Anfertigung des Kranzes und die Verkündigungen
51Sorge tragen die Generäle und der Schatzmeister der Militärkasse;
52dass man auch sein Standbild aus Bronze aufstelle auf der Agora und ein anderes im
53Piräus in dem Handelskontor; dass ihm auch sein solle Speisung im Prytaneion
54und dem jeweils ältesten seiner Nachkommen, und ein Ehrensitz bei allen Festspielen,
55die die Stadt veranstaltet; dass die Thesmotheten die Prüfung

7Sodamos son of Timasitheos of Oion proposed: since Kephisodoros has displayed to the uttermost
8his good will towards the People at every opportunity,
9engaging in politics for thirty years cleanly and incorruptibly,
10avoiding no labour or danger for the sake of
11the interest of the community, and undertaking all other public services
12which the people assigned to him, and in particular being
13good and reputable as treasurer of the military fund, and in his conduct of the joint treasurership of the grain supply fund,
14as third member, both in the year of Apollodoros and that
15of Proxenides, and making laws conducive to
16the harmony of all Athenians, and
17advising on fair and just means of raising money, and proposing ways for
18the People to keep its existing friends firm in their loyalty
19and to obtain others in addition, and foreseeing the plots arising
20from those outside the country, and being appointed to be in charge of opposing them,
21and counselling good alliances in the interests of
22the People, and carrying out embassies in respect of the most
23important matters relating to the preservation of the cities and the countryside, and bringing in money
24and grain and not a few other donations, and proposing
25many useful decrees furthering the good repute, effectiveness and
26seemliness of the People, and maintaining the same
27preference all the time, hating what is wicked, and by the consistency
28of his deeds and thoughts being particularly responsible,
29with the goodwill of the gods, for the People's
30keeping its autonomy, and for securing the greatest good of
31no small number of the other Greeks, and by all these things
32demonstrating that he deserves to receive honour according to the law; and he requests now that
33the People set up a bronze statue of him in the agora and
34another in the Piraeus in the commercial area, and asks for meals for himself in the
35city hall and for whoever at any time is the eldest of his descendants, and a seat of honour at all
36the competitions that the city puts on, and he has made his request to the
37Council [including an itemisation] of his actions;
38so, therefore, that the People may be seen to honour good men and
39[those who at any time become] enthusiasts for such a preference [may know] that
40they will always receive appropriate honour from the Athenian People,
41for good fortune, the Council shall decide, that the presiding committee
42allotted to preside at the principal Assembly
43shall bring him before the People and place these matters on the agenda,
44and submit to the People the opinion of the Council, that it seems good to the
45Council to praise Kephisodoros - - - and crown
46him with a gold crown according to the law on account of his [excellence and the
47good-will] which he continues to show towards the Athenian People, and to proclaim
48this crown at the city Dionysia during the new tragedies,
49and at the Panathenaia and the Eleusinia and the Ptolemaia during the gymnastic
50competitions; and the making of the crown and the announcements
51shall be the responsibility of the generals and the treasurer of the military
52fund; and they are to place a bronze statue of him in the agora and another
53in the Piraeus in the commercial area; and he shall have meals in the city hall
54and whoever at any time is his eldest descendant, and a seat of honour at all the
55competitions that the city puts on; and the thesmothetai are to bring forward
